PM to lay foundation stone for burn institute in March

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lay the foundation stone for the proposed Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in the capital's Chankharpur area in the first week of March.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim said this at a press conference at the ministry conference hall Sunday.

He said: “Over the last few years hundreds of people have been admitted into the Dhaka Medical College Hospital's burn unit. Many of them died as the DMCH could not cope with the growing number of patients.”

This is why the government took the initiative to establish an international-standard burn and plastic surgery institute in the country.

The Health Ministry proposed the name as Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. The premier will lay its foundation stone in the first week of March, he added.

The deadline for the completion of the construction of the institute is December 2018, he said.

He also informed that the total project cost will be Tk522cr 49 lakh which includes a donation from the Indian government.

The Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) approved the project on November 24, 2015.
