Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique has called for raising awareness to protecting tigers, Bangladesh’s national animal, for ecological balance.
He described tigers as Bangladesh’s symbol while addressing a programme on DU campus yesterday. “Our pride and existence will be lost if tigers do not exist,” he said.
The programme was part of Bagh Activity, a joint project of the government and the USAID, implemented by Wild Team with support from Smithsonian Institution and Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies.
Prof Arefin said: “To maintain ecological balance and the natural diversity of the Sundarbans, protecting tigers is mandatory.”
A two-year nationwide campaign was launched on Thursday to raise awareness about the importance of conserving tigers and their habitat, the Sundarbans. A high-tech vehicle will travel to 100 strategic locations across the country as part of the campaign
