A woman was killed in an accident after her scarf wrapped around the wheels of an easybike, pulling her down on the road in the capital’s Badda yesterday.
The dead was identified as Anamika Sarker, 30, wife of Polash Sarker.
Anamika along with her neighbour Uzzala Banik hired an easybike, a battery-run three-wheeler, around 4pm to go to Suvastu Tower to buy school dresses for her twin sons.
Describing the incident, Uzzala said Anamika suddenly fell on the road as her scarf got stuck with the wheels of the vehicle.
Later, she was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the duty doctors declared her dead around 7:30pm, added Uzzala.
Dr Ayesha Akther, emergency medical officer at DMCH, said the victim’s neck was badly injured because of the strangulation from the scarf and she received severe injuries on her head after falling on the road.
At emergency unit gate, seven-year-old Choton and Rakesh, students of class one of Kisholoy School in Badda, were seen crying holding their father’s hand.
When approached, Polash Sarker in a shaky voice said: “I do not know what I will do now. Without their mother, what will happen to my children?.”
