One killed in capital road accident

A sexagenerian man has been killed when a microbus veered off the road and ran him over on a footpath in the capital's Sonir Akhra area on Friday.

The deceased is Tofazzal Hossain.

Witnesses said the driver of the speedy-driven microbus lost his control over the steering and climbed onto the footpath around 3:30pm while Tofazzal and his nephew Jasim were standing there.

Critically injured Tofazzal and Jasim, 40, were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared the sexagenerian man dead, said ASI Sentu Chandra of the DMCH police outpost.

Jatrabari OC told the Dhaka Tribune that angry locals set the microbus on fire soon after the incident took place. However, the driver managed to flee.
