Palestinian president to make stopover in Dhaka

Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to make a stopover in Dhaka for an hour early Sunday on his way to Japan.

Abbas along with his entourage will reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 12:30am on Sunday and leave the country at 1:30am, diplomatic sources said.

The immigration authorities at the airport have already been asked to take necessary steps in this regard.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid will welcome the Palestinian President at the airport, said an official at the Palestine embassy in Dhaka.

Abbas has been the chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) since November 11, 2004 and Palestinian President since 15 January 2005.
