Accusing former justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik of making the judiciary controversial, the BNP yesterday condemned the retired justice’s comment that chief justice SK Sinha acted as spokesperson of Khaleda Zia.
The party also said that the country’s people knew very well whose purpose was served by the retired justice when he was serving the Appellate Division.
Addressing a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters, BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that retired Justice Manik is trying to turn the court premises as a centre for implementing the ruling Awami League’s agenda.
“If the chief justice became the spokesperson of Khaleda Zia, then whose spokesperson you [Justice Manik] were, people know it,” he said.
Rizvi also alleged that the retired justice had polluted the court. “When he speaks, it seems a butcher is talking. It does not seem that a conscious and logical person is talking.”
He also said that the apex court had never become so much controversial since the British period. “Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and Khairul Huq made the court controversial.”
Rizvi added: “When his misdeeds are being unmasked today, when the chief justice is making comments on rule of law and justice, he [Manik] could not tolerate it and started making bad comments.”
