Two complaints -- one for sedition and another under ICT Act -- have been filed against ruling party lawmaker MA Latif for distorting the image of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on billboards and festoons set up in Chittagong.
KM Belayet Hossain, adviser of Metropolitan Awami League, filed the sedition complaint while former Jubo League leader Saifuddin Ahmed Robi filed the complaint under article 57 of the ICT Act.
The complaints were filed with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Farid Alam on Tuesday afternoon.
The court will pass its order on the complaints later in the day.
Earlier on February 4, Robi filed a Tk1,000 crore defamation case against MP Latif on the same reason.
Recently, festoons showing a photograph of the Father of the Nation were installed in the city by Latif’s supporters during the recent visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on January 30. However, the posture, attire and shoes of the person on the photograph did not match with Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It was alleged that Latif had superimposed only the head of Bangabandhu on his portrait.
On February 7, MP Latif produced the graphic designer of a printing house before the media who admitted to distorting the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
During the press conference designer Kabir Rajib claimed that he was unwittingly involved in the distortion of the image of Bangabandhu.
