Contractual employees to come under online pay fixation

The government has decided to relax the conditions and lengthy procedures for the reappointment and salary fixation for contractual employees under the 8th pay scale.

Currently, top secretaries of the Prime Minister's Office and the finance and health ministries  are working on contractual basis – they have been reappointed after retirement.

Until now, every time there has been a new pay scale, contractual employees had to take opinions of several government offices before their new salaries came into effect.

However, a new proposal looks to make it easier for these bureaucrats by bringing them under the recently enacted “online pay fixation” mechanism as well.

Under this system introduced along with the new pay structure in December last year, instead of the age-old paper-based system, regular government employees are fixing their new salaries by filling up a form on the internet.

On February 6, Finance Minister AMA Muhith gave his consent to the proposal. The Ministry of Public Administration is likely to issue a circular in this regard in a day or two.

According to the summary proposal, contractual employees will be able to avail the new facilities if the extended period of their jobs started on or after July 1, 2015.
