Two persons have launched an attack on the human chain formed demanding the punishment of Awami League lawmaker MA Latif in Chittaong.
A group of people under the banner of 'Jagroto Chhatra O Jubo Janata' formed the human chain in Madarbari area of Chittagong town from 11am to 1pm Monday.
'Jagroto Chhatra O Jubo Janata' member secretary Abdur Rahim Jillu said: "Two youths started stabbing the participants when they went to a nearby restaurant around 1:30pm."
One person named Rashed was injured in the attack. He was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
The attackers were caught and handed over to police. Sharp weapons were found after searching the bags of the attackers.
The images of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were installed on banners and festoons in Chittagong city by ruling Awami League lawmaker MA Latif during the recent visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the port city on January 30.
The billboards showed a photograph of the Father of the Nation. However, the posture, attire and shoes did not match with Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
It is alleged that MA Latif MP superimposed just the head of Bangabandhu on the portrait of himself as the body did not resemble that of Bangabandhu.
On Sunday, MA Latif produced the graphic designer of a printing house before the media who admitted to distorting the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Designer Kabir Hossain made the statement during a press briefing, organised by the Awami League MP. He claimed that they were in a hurry to complete the task.
Latif also presented Rajib Das, a staff of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), at the event.
The CCCI had assigned Rajib with the task of printing all publications ahead of the inaugural ceremony of the World Trade Centre and a five-day long centenary programme of the CCCI. Latif was the chairman of the organising committee.
During the press conference, both Kabir and Rajib claimed that they were unwittingly involved in the distortion of the image of Bangabandhu.
