Indian high commissioner calls on PM

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla has made a courtesy call on Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina.

The newly appointed Indian high commissioner paid the courtesy call on the premier at her office on Sunday.

Harsh Vardhan conveyed the greetings of the President and Prime Minister of India to Hasina during the meeting, according to a press release issued on Monday.

He stated that India attached the highest importance to its relations with Bangladesh.

"It would be his endeavour to work towards further expanding and strengthening the close and friendly relations that exist between India and Bangladesh."

Recalling the joint declaration between India and Bangladesh – ‘Notun Prajanmo Nayi Disha’ - and the decisions taken during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Modi to Bangladesh, the high commissioner said he would work closely with all concerned to fully realise the potentials of the bilateral relationship as envisioned by both Prime Ministers.

He also briefed Hasina about recent and forthcoming high level exchanges between the two countries, including talks between the Foreign Secretaries in New Delhi and call on External Affairs Minister of India by State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh last week.

He conveyed that the ‘Unfinished Memoirs’ of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman would be translated into Hindi soon.

The prime minister extended her best wishes to the High Commissioner for a successful tenure in Bangladesh.
