Swimmer Mahfuza wins 2nd gold for Bangladesh

Mahfuza Khatun has clinched the 2nd gold medal for Bangladesh in the 12th South Asian Games in the women’s 100-metrw breast swimming.

The event took place at Dr Zakir Hussain Aquatic Complex in Guwahati, India on Sunday, reports UNB.

She took one minute and 20.20 seconds to cover the distance. 

Lianna Catherine of Pakistan won the silver medal clocking 1:20.21 while Ramudi Samarakoon of Sri Lanka took the bronze timing 1:20.41.

Earlier in the day, lifter Mabia Akhter Simanta clinched the first gold medal for Bangladesh in the ongoing South Asian Games in the women’s 63-kg weight category of weightlifting at the Bhogeshwari Phukanani Indoor Stadium in Dispur, Guwahati.

With the day’s feat, Bangladesh have secured a total of 12 medals -- two gold, two silver and eight bronze -- till the filing of this report at 6:30pm.
