The order came soon after the tea-seller, Babul Matubbor, succumbed to his burn injuries on Thursday afternoon.

He received severe burns when a team of Shah Ali police allegedly attacked him, causing an oil spill from his stove.

He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital immediately after the incident happened on Wednesday night.

Later, he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 90% burns around 1:30pm Thursday.

Family members alleged that the police members attacked Babul as he refused to pay them extortions.

On the other hand, the police members claimed that the deceased was a drug dealer and he received the burns while trying to run away from the law enforcers.

Babul's nephew Jahirul Islam earlier told the Dhaka Tribune that seven people, including six policemen came to his uncle's shop and demanded extortion.

When Babul refused, one of them beat him up with a stick.

At one point of the assault, another policeman kicked a stove in the stall, causing him severe burns.

Babul's son claimed that SI Sreedham Chandra Haldar and police source Delwar Hossain were among the policemen who attacked his father's tea stall last night.
