Accident halts traffic on Bangabandhu Bridge

Hundreds of passengers were stuck for hours in a seven-kilometre tailback from Bangabandhu Bridge to Elenga in Tangail, following a series of early morning accidents on the bridge.

Vehicular movement ground to a halt around 8am Wednesday after five accidents took place on the western side of the bridge that spans the Jamuna River.

No causalities were reported.

Bangladesh Bridge Authority's (BBA) Assistant Engineer Wasim Ali said: “The accidents took place due to dense fog and resulted in the tailback this morning.”

“Vehicular movement returned to normal around 10:30am,” Bangabandhu Bridge west police station OC Raqibur Rahman said.
