Ecnec nods BSMMU development project

The government yesterday approved a super specialised hospital project of Tk1,366.34 crore to modernise and expand healthcare facilities at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) meeting that cleared altogether nine developments projects worth Tk4,858.77 crore.

Of the expenditure, Tk2,477.49cr will come from the national exchequer, Tk173.93cr from project related public agencies’ own fund and Tk2,207.35cr from project assistance.

After the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said a 13-storey hospital building would be constructed at the BSMMU and procure modern medical equipment and furniture.

BSMMU will implement the project by December 2019 where Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund will provide Tk1,047 crore as project assistance at 0.01% interest rate with a grace period of 15 years to be repaid in 40 years.

Under the project, the emergency medical care center would also be established at the BSMMU specialised hospital apart from setting up gastroenterology and hepatobiliary centre, child and mother health care center, cardio and cerebro vascular center, kidney diseases center, ICU and central diagnostic and pathology department.

Other projects cleared included a Tk635cr project for the Establishment of a Medical College in Tangail and upgrading the 250-bed general hospital to 500-bed; a Tk909cr project for Controlling of Evaporation at the Titas Gas Field and Evaluation and Development of this field (1st revised); and Tk614.84cr Rural Infrastructure Development project in Gopalganj.
