Gazipur boiler blast death toll now 9

Another person who was injured in a boiler explosion at a tyre factory in Gazipur last week died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) yesterday, raising the death toll to nine. 

Swadhin Forazi, 26, a rickshaw puller who was from Gorail village in Islampur, Jamalpur district, succumbed to his injuries at the DMCH Burn Unit around 5pm, said sources at the deputy commissioner’s office. 

Swadhin along with his family members used to live in Bhadun area of Pubail, reported UNB.

The district administration provided Tk10,000 to the family of the deceased for burial. 

Meanwhile, a case was filed against eight people, including factory owner Iman Uddin, with Joydebpur police station in this regard. 

Six people, including a female schoolteacher, were burned to death and 10 others suffered injuries as a fire broke out after a boiler exploded at the factory of Gazipur Smart Metal and Chemical Ltd, which makes fuel oil from tyre, at Pubail in Gazipur last Statuary. 

Of them, three injured were admitted to the DMCH Burn Unit where Abdul Kader, 50, died on Sunday, Kamal on Tuesday, and Forazi succumbed to his injuries yesterday.
