Bishwo Shahitto Kendro yesterday awarded 862 book enthusiasts in Rajshahi as part of its nationwide enrichment programme.
Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed, founder of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro, inaugurated the award giving ceremony on Rajshahi Education Board Model School and College premises.
“Books add beauty to the heart, enlighten us and also enrich our lives. People who have enriched hearts can build an enriched nation. It is our expectation that you [students] will enrich your heart by reading books in order to work for the development of the country,” Professor Sayeed said in his speech.
“You can be better human beings by reading books, and Bangladesh will be better when you will be better,” he added.
“Girls are making progress in the country because they read books and also have dreams. Bishwo Shahitto Kendro is relentlessly working to help you dream,” said celebrated author Hasan Azizul Huq.
Head of Grameenphone’s Rajshahi region Imtiaz Ahmed said his company was proud to be part of the programme that recognises the activity of pursuing knowledge.
“Grameenphone will continue to be part of this initiative of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro,” he added.
The ceremony was organised in association with the country’s leading mobile phone operator Grameenphone.
Some 2,500 students of 34 schools in Rajshahi participated in the nationwide enrichment programme in 2015.
Rajshahi Additional Divisional Commissioner Md Munir Hossain, Organiser of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro’s Natore chapter Alak Moitra, and Rajshahi Education Board Model School and College Principal Dr Md Makbul Hossain were present at yesterday’s programme.
