An elderly man committed suicide allegedly for failing to pay loan taken from some non-governmental organisations in Kalamani area of Guimari upazila in Khagrachari district yesterday. The deceased was Ismail Hossain, 60.
Sources said Ismail took loan a lot of money form Grameen Bank and several other NGOs. He was supposed to repay the money in instalments. But he failed to repay the money when the NGO workers would frequently go to his house and humuliate him for the money.
In the morning, the body of Isamil was found hanging from a tree nearby the house.
Nayem, a neighour of the victim, said Ismail had told him about the pressure from Grameen Bank and other two NGO workers for the money. Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Guimari police station, said Ismail might have committed suicide after failing to repay the NGOs loan.
