A psychiatrist with three members of his family was killed when a bus rammed into his private car in Daudkandi upazila, Comilla.
The deceased are Associate Professor of National Mental Health Institute Dr Fazlul Bari, 45, his wife Asma-ul-Husna, 35, daughter Fahmida,10, and their domestic help Sheema, 13.
Fazlul Bari’s another daughter Faiza, 5, and son Purna, 3, also received severe injuries in the accident. They have been admitted to Gouripur Upazila Health Complex in critical condition.
Gouripur Highway Police outpost in-charge Sergeant Moniruzzaman said: “The accident took place in Tamta area around 2am when a Chittagong-bound bus of Unique Paribahan rammed into the Dhaka-bound car from Comilla, leaving Dr Fazlul Bari and three others of his family dead on the spot and two others injured.
“Being informed, police rushed in and seized the bus. However, the driver and his assistant managed to flee.”
Three die as truck crushes into roadside house
Three members of a family were killed and two others injured when a truck plunges into their house in Dwariarpur municipality area of Shahjadpur upazila in the early hours of the day.
The deceased were identified as Bakkar Sheikh, 42, his wife Arbi Khatun, 35, and their son Sabbir Hossain,6, while the injured were Sourav,9, son of deceased Bakkar Sheikh, and their neighbour Majnu Miah,42.
Police said a truck from Jessore plunged into a roadside house in the area as its driver lost control over the steering at about 5:30am, killing the trio on the spot and two others injured.
Police recovered the bodies and sent it to Sirajganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The injured were admitted to Shahjadpur Health Complex.
