Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday told Parliament that there are some 100,000 account holders having at least Tk1 crore deposited in the scheduled banks of the country.
In reply to a starred question to Md Suhrab Uddin (Kishoreganj 2), the minister said there were 114,000 accounts having Tk1 crore in the scheduled banks on September 30, 2015.
As per the statistics he placed in the House, the number of bank accounts of them increased to 114,265 on September 30, 2015 from 108,974 accounts on December 31, 2014. The number of bank accounts of Tk1 crore was 78,150 in 2011, 90,655 in 2012 and 98,591 in 2013.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith also said Bangladesh earned revenue expenditure of Tk1,517,967,009 from the port city Chittagong’s Sitakundu’s ship breaking yard.
Replying to a query of Didarul Islam, the finance minister said Bangladesh earned Tk973,581,009 in 2014-15 fiscal year from the ship breaking income taxes while Tk544,386,000 from VAT of 81 organisations.
