A chilling cold spell sent the mercury plummeting across the country on Sunday, with Chuadanga experiencing 6 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the year.
Many thousand people suffered badly as the persisting chilly weather with strong winds sent them packing home early, limiting their outdoor activities to only basic necessities.
The sudden fall in the temperature in the area happened as the ridge of sub continental high extends up to Western part of Bangladesh and adjoining area.
Sunday's highest temperature 26.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in Teknaf.
Weather is likely to remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country.
Moderate to thick fog may occur at places over the river basins and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere over the country during mid night till morning.
Mild cold wave is sweeping over Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions and the regions of Tangail, Jessore and Kushtia and it may continue and spread over adjacent area.
Dhaka also bore the brunt of the chill as the city's temperature is likely to fall by 1-2 degree Celsius in night, Met office said.
