At least three people have died and five others become seriously ill after taking tainted liquor at Enayetpur village under Badalgachhi upazila of the district.
The tragic incident took place early Saturday and the names of the deceased were revealed as Solaiman Ali, Hossain Ali and Abdul Majid.
Confirming the incident, Badalgachhi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam said a total of eight people including the three fell sick after taking liquor at a picnic on Friday midnight and the locals got admitted them to the district hospital in a critical condition.
Later, Solaiman died in the hospital before dawn and Hossain and Mazid died on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. The condition of the rest five was stated to be critical still in the morning, said sources at Naogaon Sadar Hospital.
They were taking necessary steps in the incident, the OC added.
