HC: Accept Rabbi’s complaint as FIR

The High Court ordered police to accept Bangladesh Bank official Golam Rabbi’s complaint against SI Masud Sikdar as FIR.

The court also observed that suspended SI Masud should be dismissed, reported the Bangla Tribune.

The bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Hossain and Justice AKM Shahidul Haque passed the order yesterday afternoon following a writ petition.

The HC also issued a rule asking why the incident of detaining the Bangladesh Bank official and torturing him would not be declared illegal.

Home secretary, law secretary, inspector general of police, DMP commissioner, Tejgaon zone deputy commissioner, Mohammadpur police station officer-in-charge, SI Masud Sikdar and National Human Rights Commission have been made respondents to the rule.

Lawyers AKM Ehsanur Rahman, SM Zulfiqar Ali and broadcaster of Radio Dhoni Zahid Hasan filed the petition on Sunday.

Sub-Inspector Masud Sikder of Mohammadpur police station confined Rabbi to a police vehicle and pressured him to give Tk5 lakh in bribe on the night of January 9.

Masud also threatened to kill Rabbi in a shootout and implicate him in a drugs case if he failed to give the money.
