The High Court has ordered to accept Bangladesh Bank official Golam Rabbi's complaint against SI Masud Sikdar as FIR.
The court also observed that suspended SI Masud should be dismissed, reports Bangla Tribune, sister concern of Dhaka Tribune.
The bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Hossain and Justice AKM Shahidul Haque passed the order on Monday afternoon, following a writ petition.
At the same time, the HC issued a rule asking why the incident of detaining the Bangladesh Bank official and torturing him would not be declared illegal.
Home secretary, law secretary, inspector general of police, DMP commissioner, Tejgaon zone deputy commissioner, Mohammadpur police station officer-in-charge, SI Masud Sikdar and National Human Rights Commission have been made respondents to the rule.
Lawyers AKM Ehsanur Rahman, SM Zulfiqar Ali and broadcaster of Radio Dhoni Zahid Hasan filed the petition on Sunday.
Sub-Inspector Masud Sikder of Mohammadpur police station confined Rabbi to a police vehicle and pressured him to give Tk5 lakh in bribe on the night of January 9.
Masud also threatened to kill Rabbi in a shootout and implicate him in a drugs case if he failed to give the money.
The following day, Rabbi submitted a written complaint to the deputy commissioner of Tejgaon division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
While at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Rabbi received anonymous threats to refrain from seeking legal action against the policeman.
