Petrobangla invites EoIs for two LNG terminals

State-owned Petrobangla has invited expressions of interest (EoIs) from prospective bidders to implement two more land-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals at Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar and Payra maritime port area.

The plan comes despite the fact that the government is yet to set up the country’s first-ever floating storage and re-gasification unit, better known as LNG terminal, which was planned five years ago.

“We have planned to set up two land-based LNG terminals and have invited EoIs in this regard,” Petrobangla Chairman Istiaque Ahmad told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.

“After getting EoIs from prospective bidders, we will prepare a shortlist. Then we will seek request for proposal (RFP) documents and other relevant papers from only the shortlisted firms,” he said, adding that February 15 is the last date for submission.

Petrobangla will implement the projects.

The purpose of setting up the terminals is to import LNG so that the country does not have to face any abrupt energy crisis because of shortfall in supply in the near future.
