The state has filed a petition seeking a review of war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayedee’s appeal verdict, which commuted his death penalty to imprisonment until death.
The 653-page petition was submitted to the Supreme Court's branch concerned on Tuesday afternoon.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said the state sought death for Sayedee in the review petition on five grounds.
On December 31, the Supreme Court released the full verdict.
On February 28, 2013, Delwar Hossain Sayedee, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, was found guilty of genocide, rape and religious persecution and the tribunal also awarded him death penalty.
On March 28, 2013, Sayedee filed an appeal with the Supreme Court seeking acquittal on all charges.
On the same day, the government also submitted a separate appeal seeking Sayedee’s punishment in all the eight charges.
On September 17, 2014, the Supreme Court gave its judgement that commuted the war criminal's death sentence to imprisonment until death.
