Dhaka streets clogged with unusual traffic jam

The city dwellers have been experiencing unusual traffic congestion in many parts of the capital since the morning.

The tailbacks trapped commuters for hours at Agargaon, Dhanmondi-Mirpur road, Mohakhali, Tejgaon, Moghbazar, Science Lab, Green Road, Farmgate, Shahbagh and other adjacent areas, said witnesses.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded at different points in the capital city, they added.

A large number of passengers were seen walking getting down from the vehicles to reach the destinations, they continued.

The ruling Awami League is holding a grand rally in the capital marking the Home Coming Day of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on January 10.

The rally began at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan at 2:30pm Monday.

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the rally. Moreover, central AL leaders also joined the rally.

To make the rally a grand success, thousands of AL activists, leaders joined the rally from each and every corner of the capital.

On January 10 in 1972, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman returned to independent Bangladesh after nine and a half months' of captivity in a Pakistan jail.

Since then, the nation is observing the day as the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu.
