6 private universities to be operative in 6 months

Six more new private universities will start their academic programme in the next six months, according to the Ministry of Education.

Muhammad Saifullah, Information and Public Relations Officer of the Education Ministry, confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

On January 6, 2016 six private universities got approval from the Ministry of Education.

The approved universities are International University of Scholars and Canadian University of Bangladesh in Dhaka, University of Creative Technology in Chittagong, Rabindra Moitri University in Kustia, Northern University in Khulna and NPI University of Bangladesh in Manikganj.

According to the officials of the University of Grants( UGC) of Bangladesh, earlier the number of private universities was 83. Now it has stood at 89.

Most of the universities do not have their own campuses.

The government is said to have given approval of six new universities as ministers, MPs and influential people are the trustee board members of those universities.

According to the ministry, 110 more applications are awaiting approval. Currently there are 38 public universities across the country.
