The country’s garment accessories and packaging manufacturers have sought policy support from the government to achieve its US$12bn export target by 2021.
“We have set export target of $12bn by 2018 from the accessories, which needs government policy support,” Rafez Alam Chowdhury, president of Bangladesh Garment Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) told the reporters at a press conference held in the capital yesterday.
Alam was addressing a press conference on the ocassion of the upcoming 15th GAPEXPO-2016, International Yarn and Fabrics Sourcing Fair and GARMENTECH to be held from January 13-16 at International Convention Centre Bashundhara in the capital.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed is expected to inaugurate the four-day expo at International Convention Centre Bashundhara in the city.
Zakaria Trade and Fair International, ASK Trade and Exhibitions Pvt Ltd and Bangladesh Garment Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) will jointly organise the show.
A total of 300 companies from 20 countries will display garment accessories, packaging and related machinery including labels, zippers, tags, tapes, thread, ribbon, buttons, rivets, laces, hooks, transfer film, paper and ink along with related machinery.
There will be no entry fees for the show, which will remain open from 11am to 7pm eachday.
“The expo will display latest machinery, fabrics and yarns and innovative accessories for the garment industry, where the buyers will get all the necessary good under a roof,” said Alam.
He said, “We are hoping over 25,000 visitors from home and abroad, which will help to exchange experience and knowledge.
There is no alternative of expo for expanding industry and to bridge among buyers and manufacturers, he added.
