Bangladesh Navy has got two new battle ships from China.
The two battle ships — BNS Swadhinata and BNS Prottay under Corvette Class Missile Frigate made by China – reached at Naval Jetty in Chittagong around 10:30am on Sunday.
Chittagong Naval Zone’s Commander Rear Admiral Akhtar Habib and other officials were present during the handover ceremony.
The ships were handed over by China Ship Building Company, the state-run company, after 35 months after a contract was inked between Bangladesh Navy and the shipbuilding company in 2012.
The duo modern battle ships made voyage from Kui Dong Port of China on December 26 last.
Project Official Commodore AKM Faruk Hasan told the media that apart from the battle ground, the two corvette class ships will also play very significant role in other emergency situation in the country.
He also said the 90 meters long and 11.4 meters wide two ships have high powerful ballistic missiles and able to target any submarine under surface of the sea.
