War crimes: Noni, Taher verdict any day

The verdict in the war crimes case against Ataur Rahman Noni and Obaidul Haque Taher will be delivered any day.

The International Crimes Tribunal headed by Justice Anwarul Haque kept the case waiting for verdict on Sunday morning, prosecutor Mokhlesur Rahman Badal told the Dhaka Tribune.

The tribunal indicted the duo on March 2 last year, framing six specific charges against them.

On December 4, 2014, the prosecution had submitted a formal charge against the two alleged Razakar kingpins from Netrokona.

According to the prosecution, Noni and Taher as Razakar leaders carried out heinous crimes in 1971 in Netrokona sadar and Barhatta areas. They are accused of being involved in the killings of 15 innocent civilians and setting fire to 400 to 450 houses.

They occupied the house of Moloy Bihari Biswas in Mokterpara area of Netrokona town and established a Razakar camp there. They carried out crimes like genocide, murder, arson, looting and torture from that camp.
