Stock markets pass maiden week of 2016 on optimism

Stock markets witnessed a maiden week of the New Year on optimism, spurred by mainly a buying binge from institutional investors.

The initial euphoria of the week that ended on Thursday, however,  evaporated as risk averse retailers opted for booking profit quickly in the final session of the week. 

The benchmark of Dhaka Stock Exchange, DSEX, rose 46 points or 1% higher to 4,676, ending two consecutive weeks of losses. 

The blue-chip comprising index, DS30, inched over 3 points higher to 1,750.

The DSE Shariah Index, DSES, witnessed a fractional gain of 0.7 points to 1,750.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange Selective Category Index, CSCX, closed at 8,685, soaring 113 points or 1.4%.
