JL faction attacks rivals in Pabna, 8 shot

Eight people, including two women, have received bullet injuries when a faction of Jubo League opened fire on its rivals in Mondal Para of the district's Sadar upazila.

The injured are Matya Ujjal, 44, Mahbub, 30, Hamidul, 28, Monowara Khatun, 36, Nasim, 25, Kanchan, 31, Hanif, 32 and Parvin AKhter, 40.

Locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between local Jubo League leaders Habban and Moazzem.

Centring the issue, supporters of Habban opened fire on Biddut, a supporter of Moazzem, on Monday, inflicting injuries in his leg.

After receiving treatment and returning from Pabna General Hospital, Biddut along with his other party fellow attacked the supporters of Habban and opened fire on them on Wednesday evening, leaving eight people bullet-injured.

The injured have been admitted to the hospital, reported UNB.

Being informed, law enforcers rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Abdullah Al Hasan, OC of Sadar Police Station.

No case was filed over the incident until the filing of this report around 10am Thursday.
