Re-elections in 20 municipalities will be held on January 12 including the Madhabdi Municipality, the Election Commission announced yesterday at its regular meeting.
During the municipalities election on December 30 last year, due to violence, booth capture, vote rigging polls were suspended in 39 polling centre of 18 municipalities and in Madhabdi Municipality.
EC Assistant Secretary Razib Ahsan said: “In those municipalities re-polls will be held to elect seven mayors and 72 general councillors.”
The EC also decided to deploy additional law enforcers to stop violence and irregularities.
“A total of 51 executive magistrate will be deployed in 51 polling centres so that they can take immediate action against the miscreants,” a higher official of the commission said.
The municipal election in Singair of Manikganj district is scheduled to be held today.
