The High Court yesterday stayed a fine of Tk30 lakh imposed on Arambagh Krira Sangha by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) for three months.
The BFF and the government authorities concerned has also been asked to explain in two weeks as to why the fine imposed for alleged vandalism should not be declared illegal. The defendants have to come up with explanations in two weeks.
Moved by a writ petition filed by the club’s General Secretary Aziz Ahmed Jahangir, the HC bench of Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury and Justice M Khoshruzzaman came up with the order. The club’s lawyer AKM Nurul Alam claimed that some outsiders vandalised the BFF office on December 22 during a match of Arambagh Krira Sangha at Kamalapur stadium.
Making the club responsible for the incident, the BFF later issued a letter imposing a fine of Tk30 lakh. The letter asked the club to pay the money by January 5 and said, in default the club will be suspended for a year.
The club authorities then moved with the High Court challenging the BFF decision.
According to media reports, rowdy supporters of Arambagh allegedly vandalised the BFF house following their defeat in a match against Bangladesh Police AC at Birshrestha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur.
