Drugs, smuggled goods worth Tk786.72cr seized by BGB in a year

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh have seized drugs and smuggling items worth Tk786.72 crore in countrywide drives in the last one year, said a press release.

The release issued from BGB headquarters yesterday read that among the seized drugs, there were 50.56 lakh pieces of yaba, 4.79 lakh bottles of phensedyl, 10kg heroin, 10,196kg of marijuana, 3.09 lakh bottles of foreign liquors, 6.92 lakh pieces of stimulant tablet, 55,480 ampoules of drug injection and 2.54 crore intoxicating tablets.

During the drives, the paramilitary force also seized 1.54 lakh pieces of saris, 44,735 three-piece garment, 8.14 lakh metres of plain cloth, 56,870 pieces of garment product, 39,364 cft wood, 22.32kg gold and 1.75 lakh pieces different type of machines.

Besides, the BGB also seized 67 pistols, 40 rifles, 54 different types of bombs, 4,043 rounds of bullets, 23 IED and 63 magazines.

A total of 2,216 people were arrested for smuggling and were handed over to police by the BGB.

It also stopped 1,492 Bangladeshi from crossing the border illegally, added the release.
