The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) yesterday declared the Shyamoli-Aminbazar road a parking-free space.
The DNCC will also gradually free the roads and footpaths in Shyamoli, Kallyanpur, Technical Intersection, Mazar Road, Gabtoli and Aminbazer from illegal occupation.
The announcement formally came from a rally organised by the DNCC at Gabtoli Bus Terminal yesterday.
Chaired by Aslamul Haque, a ruling party lawmaker of Dhaka-14 constituency, the rally was also addressed by Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq, local Awami League leaders and leaders of the Transport Owners and Workers Associations.
Shajahan Khan as the chief guest of the programme said: “We all want a green, clean traffic-jam-free Dhaka. Everyone should help the city corporation authorities.”
Annisul Haque said he would discuss with land owners adjoining Gabtoli Terminal about building a truck terminal there.
Transport leaders at the rally also assured that they would provide all kinds of support to the city corporation to build a livable and clean Dhaka.
The leaders, however, urged Mayor Annisul to extend the Gabtoli Terminal so that vehicles could be parked inside the terminal.
Early this month the DNCC declared the Tejgaon Industrial area and its adjoining Tejgaon Truck Stand and Mohakhali Bus Terminal no-parking zone.
