The annual Textbook Festival Day will be inaugurated by Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid at 9am on January 1 at Government Laboratory High School in the capital.
Students from classes I to IX across the country would receive free textbooks on the first day of New Year, Deputy Secretary Subodh Chandra Dhali told the Dhaka Tribune.
Primary and secondary schools, madrasas and vocational institutions will remain open on that day but there will be no classes, he said.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will publish the results of Primary School Certificate (PSC), Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations tomorrow. She would also inaugurate the free textbook distribution programme at the Ganabhaban the same day.
For the 2016 academic session, the National Curriculum and Textbook Board published 33,39,61,124 books for 4,44,16,728 students. The NCTB last year printed 32,63,47,923 books.
Earlier, the minister expressed concerns over print quality and delay in printing the textbooks. He, however, hoped that the books would be delivered on time.
