Stocks prices witness slight correction with declining turnover

Stocks prices at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) witnessed slight correction yesterday with declining turnover, as institutional investors remain inactive ahead of year-end closing.

DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), closed at 4,603 points with a 6 points or 0.12% fall. The blue chip index DS30 remained unchanged ending at points, while the shariah based index DSES lost 0.13%)or points to finish the session at.

“Stocks turned in a lackluster performance in early trading today after trending higher over the past few sessions. Benchmark index bounced back and forth across the 4600 level, but unable to sustain any significant moves at the end of trading,” said LankaBangla Securities market commentary.

The choppy trading on DSE came as many investors were taking a head start on scalping at the end of current year, the stockbroker said.

However, trading value plunged to one-week low indicating reluctance to make significant movement at this point of time, it added.

“While market struggled to remain positive, waves of sale pressure beat it down, in a frequent interval, causing it to close almost flat,” said IDLC Investments in its market analysis.

The merchant noted that ahead of year-end, investors were pursuing passive strategy and focused on portfolio re-balancing, it added.
