Police have recovered the burnt body of a housewife from Daulatpur village in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj.
Police detained three people including the husband on suspicion of their involvement in the incident that took place on Sunday.
The victim is Gita Rani Das, wife of Liton Das, from the village.
Gita's elder brother Sanjit Das alleged that: “Liton used to assault my sister for dowry, even he married again last year. He (Liton) has burnt alive my sister for dowry.”
On the contrary, Gita's in-laws denied the claim and termed the incident as a suicide case.
Sources said locals spotted Gita's burnt body in a house of one of her relatives in the morning and informed police who afterwards brought the body to the police station.
When contacted, Nabiganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Baten said: “Gita was a mental patient. We are yet to sure whether the incident is murder or suicidal. Details will appear after the investigation.”
Police detained his parents as well for questioning, the OC continued.
