Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday said Bangladesh Bank staff would not get a separate pay scale, adding that the eighth pay scale had already given civil servants a massive pay hike.
Muhith expressed dissatisfaction with comments made by BB officials over not getting a separate pay scale. “A separate pay scale has not been announced for Bangladesh Bank staff … There will not be one and there is no need for a separate pay scale for the country’s financial institutions regulator.
“I think that BB staff will benefit from the eighth pay scale salary structure.”
At the launch of the new salary and pension fixation website at the Finance Division auditorium yesterday, the finance minister said: “We wanted to formulate a separate pay scale for teachers but our idle Education Ministry failed to send a proposal in this regard.”
Teachers at public universities have opposed the eighth pay scale because their demands have not been met.
Muhith said while there is a separate pay scale for Bangladesh Bank governors and deputy governors, separate pay scales for central bank officials and staff was not needed.
On Tuesday night, Muhith confirmed to journalists that public servants would receive their December salaries under the 2015 pay scale where the highest salary is Tk78,000 and the lowest is Tk8,250.
Allowances under the new scale will be given from July, while arrears will be paid in two 50% tranches at the end of this month and February, he said.
