Five robbers have received bullets while five police members injuries in a “gunfight” in the district's Chunarughat upazila.
Of the injured policemen, one is identified as DB Police SI Sudip Ray.
Confirming the news, ASP Masudur Rahman said:“Acting on a tip-off, the law enforcers raided Mahmudpur area of the upazila around 9pm Thursday when the criminals were preparing for robbery.
“Sensing the presence of the DB police, the robbers opened fire.”
“In response, the detectives fired some eight rounds of bullets, leaving five robbers injured,” added the police official.
The injured robbers—Fazal Ali, Rasel Mia, Shafiq Mia, Sayed Ali and Liton Mia—have been admitted to the Sadar Hospital.
The police recovered one pipe-gun and three rounds of bullets from the spot.
