Four members of a family including a policeman have sustained burn injuries as a gas cylinder exploded at Mojganni residential area in Khulna city.
The victims were identified as policeman Atiar Rahman, 70, his wife Anwara Begum, their son Md Toufique, 16, and their relative Md Tamim, 18.
Of the injured, Anwara received 70% while Tamim received 60% burn injuries respectively.
The injured were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital, said Khalispur police station SI Alimuzzaman.
Khalispur OC SM Anwar Hossain told Dhaka Tribune that the gas cylinder exploded when Atiar’s wife started cooking in the kitchen on Saturday morning.
Fire engulfed the whole room in a very short time and all four people sustained burn injuries.
Later, locals whisked them off to the burn unit of Khulna Medical College Hospital, the police official said.
On information, fire servicemen rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. They also recovered a leaked gas cylinder from the kitchen of Atiar.
