An accused, who was remanded in a case filed over trafficking of women for prostitution, has fled Pallabi police station in the capital's Mirpur area.
The accused, Atiqur Rahman Surjo, fled from police custody on Thursday night, said Pallabi police station OC Dadon Bhuiyan.
The OC told the Dhaka Tribune: “The man, who is facing trial for trafficking of women for prostitution, was placed on a three-day remand on Thursday afternoon.
“The IO of the case filed under Section 290 of the Penal Code, SI Jillur Rahman Khan, took the accused to the first floor of the police station from the lockup sometimes after 8pm. But, he somehow managed to flee before the IO started quizzing Surjo.”
“The IO has been suspended on charge of negligence in performing duty as he kept the accused in the interrogation room alone for a certain period. Further investigation is underway and search for the criminal is on,” added the OC.
