Rani Mukherji blessed with a baby girl

Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji has given birth to a baby girl at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.

The baby, the first child of Rani-Aditya couple, has been named Adira, combining parents’ names.

A statement was released by Yash Raj Films in which Rani thanked her fans for support.

Rani said, "I would like to thank all my well-wishers and fans. Today life has given us God's greatest gift with Adira. We thank fans our friends for their unconditional support and blessings. With joy we begin this new chapter in our lives."

The actress was shifted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Tuesday night where she delivered the baby on Wednesday, reported a number of Indian news outlets.

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor was the first one to break this news on micro-blogging site Twitter as he congratulated the new parents.

Rishi tweeted: “Rani and Aditya Chopra become proud parents to a baby girl named Adira. Congratulations!”

Film director Karan Johar tweeted: "Am an uncle to a beautiful baby girl today!!!!! @udaychopra !!! Rani and Adi had a baby girl!!"

Rani had married Aditya Chopra in April 2014.

She was expected to deliver their child in January 2016 and there were speculations about her going abroad for the delivery.
