Officials of the Department of Narcotics Control have detained a Spanish citizen with 3kg cocaine worth Tk50 crore at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Detainee Thias Spejo Julius arrived at the airport on an Emirates Airlines fight from Brazil around 5:55pm Tuesday.
NCD Director (Operations) Syed Towfiq Uddin Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune: “We conducted a drive and detained Thias with the cocaine on the basis of the information provided by an intelligence agency of USA.”
He said: “The cocaine was kept in a special chamber in his luggage which was not noticed in the scanner at first.”
The director said the estimated price of the cocaine is Tk50 crore.
