Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (Duet) has been declared closed for an indefinite period following an infighting between two groups of Chhatra League.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting held at Duet campus on Monday afternoon, said Duet Director (Students' welfare) Professor Dr Mohammad kamruzzaman.
Male students have been asked to vacate all the dormitories by 6pm Monday while female student were asked to leave those by 8am Tuesday.
At least 12 BCL activists were injured during the factional clash which ensued between the supporters of the Duet unit BCL president and secretary.
Among the injured, two BCL activists--Chanchal Kumar and Masud Rana--were admitted to Shaheed Tazuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.
Later, they were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as their condition stated to be critical.
Professor Md Kamruzzaman said: “The university had been declared closed in order to avoid further untoward situation. However, the administrative activities will continue.”
Security have been beefed up in the university area after the incident.
