Minority communities demand for ensuring security

Minority communities in the country have demanded the government to ensure their security.

They placed a seven-point demand at a rally of religious minority and ethnic people in the capital's Suhrawardy Udyan on Friday afternoon.

They threaten to think alternative or go for revolution if their demands are not met.

Rana Das Gupta, general secretary of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad, read out the demands at the rally.

The demands include ensuring 20% representation of minorities in representative seats, government jobs and political parties, establishing a secular policy in politics and resolution of land-related problems.

They also demanded the formation of a parliamentary commission to investigate the causes of the reduction of the number of minority people in the country.

Senior Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta said they would hold another grand rally if their demands are not met within six months.
