Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested six people, including a Pakistani citizen, from the capital on charge of making fake foreign currency and having involvement with human smuggling.
RAB officials from several units made the arrest in different areas of Dhaka on Thursday night and early Friday.
The arrestees are Pakistani national Abdullah alias Selim, 42, Md Jahangir, Md Abdul Khalek, Md Kamrul Islam, 28, Md Abu Sufian, 48, and Mohammad Rasel, 45.
In a press briefing, RAB's legal and media wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan said the elite force members detained Abdullah, Md Jahangir and Md Abdul Khalek from Airport area around 8pm Thursday.
The RAB officials also seized 70 lakh Indian rupee, 21 Pakistani passports, 7 Bangladeshi passports, huge number of seals of different high officials and seal making equipment from their possession.
Later based on their information, RAB held three others in possession with 30 lakh Indian rupee, five mobile phone handsets and currencies of several countries around 1:30am Friday.
According to RAB, the elite force has so far arrested 1,700 people with fake currencies and 165 people involved with human trafficking.
