52 Bangladeshis repatriated from Myanmar

The Last batch of 52 Bangladeshi nationals, rescued from the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea by Myanmar authorities, has been repatriated from Myanmar on Thursday.

Earlier on six occasions, a total of 729 verified Bangladesh nationals were safely repatriated from Myanmar, an official handout said.

Thursday's repatriation process commenced via Ghundum border point in Naikhyongchhari upazila of Bandarban district, it said.

The ministry of foreign affairs expressed its sincere thanks to the Myanmar government, IOM and UNHCR for their necessary cooperation during the repatriation process.

The entire repatriation process was overseen by the ministry of foreign affairs by maintaining close coordination with the ministry of home affairs, Bangladesh mission in Myanmar, BG, local police and district administration, the release said.

The expeditious return of verified Bangladeshi nationals attested to the firm commitment of Bangladesh to take responsibility in irregular situation anywhere, the handout added.
