'Bangladeshi researchers abroad to get financial assistance'

Bangladeshi researchers living abroad will be provided financial assistance for their research works, Prime Minister’s Energy Advisor Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury has said.

He made the statement while addressing a programme held at Bashundhara International Convention City in Dhaka on Thursday.

Tawfiq said the researchers can come to Bangladesh or even work from abroad for Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council.

He also urged the researchers of home and abroad to work for the research council which was recently inaugurated in the country.

Talking about the solar system, Tawfiq said: “Solar system has been installed in 3.5 million houses in the country and we hope to take it to 6 million before the tenure of this government ends."

He said around 45% of the population here gets electricity and the number is increasing day by day.

“We [government] hope to provide electricity to everyone by 2018.”
